Which racial groups did the U.S. Census Bureau originally record? Were there changes (added or subtracted) to the racial groups or how groups were recorded? How did the various populations change over time? What events in American history might these changes have coincided with (e.g. Emancipation or the Great Migration)? Were there any large population increases over short periods of time?
