Complete Informal Logic Discussion Post on Premises

Complete Informal Logic Discussion Post on Premises.

TOPIC: Does social media enhance or hinder interpersonal relationships?

Reflect: To make your argument deductively valid, you will need to make sure that there is no possible way that your premises could be true and your conclusion false. Your premises must lead logically to the truth of your conclusion. Make sure that your argument is sound, that is in addition to being valid, make sure that the premises are true as far as you can tell. If your argument is invalid or if it has a false premise, revise it until you get an argument that you can stand behind.

Write: Identify the components and structure of your argument by presenting your deductively valid argument in standard form, and explain how your conclusion follows from your premises. Attached you will find my earlier assignment from last week with premises already on there. Just spruce them up a bit and go more in depth about the conclusion following my premises. Below you will find an example Discussion Post as well.

EXAMPLE DISCUSSION POST:

Premise 1: Social media requires use of an outside controller, i.e. Facebook, Snapchat, and Internet.

Premise 2: Social Media does not require physical contact or interaction.

Premise 3: Cyberbullying has increased through social media.

Conclusion: Therefore, social media hinders interpersonal relationships.

The three premises I have listed support and lead to my conclusion that social media hinders interpersonal relationships, and is deductively sound. Premises 1 and 2 support the conclusion, in that, when you rely on an outside source and physical contact is not required to accomplish, then building strong, personal relationship is not impossible, but hindered. Premise 3, not only hinders personal relationships, but sometimes has devastating results like suicide and depression. Things that are posted on social media can be hurtful and cause stress and depression in the affected individual, therefore hurting people and not building strong interpersonal relationships. Therefore if the three premises are true, than the conclusion must also be true and social media hinders interpersonal relationships. One of my favorite quotes used in my Week 1 assignment was this by Boris Vatel, in regards to the type of communication used by social media website, “…there are many good reasons to stay away from social networking, both personally and professionally. For most of our history, contact and relationships between human beings have involved physical proximity” (Vatel, 2014, p. 1).
