Anytime, an organization makes changes to the way it operates; it exposes itself to various risks. The risks may include reputation risk, compliance breach, and the risk of losing business amongst others. For health institutions, the most significant risk they expose themselves to is the compliance breach. Health institutions are expected to comply with all the policies and procedures that dictate their operations because, for health institutions, non-compliance can lead to a life and death issue (Shoja & Marakas, 2019). When new recommendations are implemented, or when changes are made to an organization/institution, compliance, and breach risk exposure occur. HCA, like any other health institution, stands to expose itself to compliance risk exposure in implementing its five recommendations. There are five key risk areas for the institution, and they are; finance and accounting, information systems, marketing, research and development, management, and operations.

Challenges for management and operations

By carefully analyzing the recommendations for HCA, it is possible to note that management and operations will be the most affected by the adoption of the proposals. Management is meant to oversee focus on employees, patients, experts to lead adequate care and service delivery, as well as the integration of technology into the organization’s activities. In simple terms, management and operations will have the burden of implementing the recommendations.

The HCA marketing team must ensure that any product or service that market for the organization is good and meets the specifications that they give. They have to comply with policies overseeing the marketing concerning the medical sector and the country.

Compliance risk for the organization as far as marketing is concerned is to implement the recommendation suggesting the prioritization of patients and focus on the best availing care for patients and their families. To sell the idea that the organization prioritizes patients and their families, the organization will have to make several promotions that market their products and services. With all marketing gimmicks, markets risk overselling by including some white lies in their marketing campaigns. White lies can be termed as compliance breach risk exposures because they breach the marketing rules for health organizations. Health institutions are expected to promote only the services they offer.

Challenges for finance and accounting

Finance and accounting is the other department that has a lot to bear as far as the adoption of the recommendations is concerned. Every organization in the country, regardless of the industry it operates in must ensure that they are not making losses. The duty of ensuring that organizations are profitable lies in the finance and accounting departments. Losses for an organization, more so health organizations imply that the organization is losing its ability to provide care as well as related services to patients. The difficulty by itself is a breach of the licensing terms issued to health organizations.

All the recommendations that HCA purposes of implementing require funding and resources. The organization will part with some resources to have all the five recommendations implemented, and expose itself to financial risk if the recommendations do not bear any fruits. If the organization cannot enact its financial obligation, it will expose itself to compliance breach risk. Many situations can lead to a compliance breach risk for the finance and accounting departments. For starters, if the implementations are not done correctly or as expected, they will not meet their expectations. Second, if the stakeholders do not back up the recommendations, there will be a waste of resources as well as the time.

Within the management case, research and development in the health sector have many rules that govern them. For starters, all the research carried out in the health sector should be beneficial and should seek to better the medical field. Non-compliance or compliance breaches in research and development regarding the health sector happen when research is not carried out the right way, or when the rules are overlooked or ignored.

In research and development, the most probable compliance and breach risk exposure concerning HCA are predicted to happen during the implementation of the recommendation to bring all the experts together. Experts in healthcare organizations are known to carry out researches to provide solutions as well as make advancements in the field of medicine. By implementing the above recommendation, HCA will probably expose itself to the risk that there will be malpractices in research and development. The hurdle occurs because not all the experts’ studies and researches will be observed, and that will create a loophole as far as compliance regarding research rules and standards are concerned.

Challenges for information systems

The second most affected department by the adoption of the five recommendations is the Information technology department. The IT department is the support system for the operations of any organization handled (Clark, 2016). The integration of technology into the organization’s plans streamlines operations as well as speeds up processes, making work easier for the organization’s employees. Through the above solution, the organization can offer better services and faster.

Several challenges are there in terms of compliance breach exposure that HCA is anticipated to face in the adoption of its five recommendations. The main problem is in the security of data. Information systems are heavily reliant on data, and it is for that reason that data security and integrity should be maintained (Kruse, Smith, Vanderlinden, & Nealand, 2017). In health organizations, HIPPA rules govern the sharing of patient data. Compliance to the rules is the biggest challenge for health organization as far as integrating technology to the operations of the organization is concerned.

Suggestions on how to overcome the above challenges

Solutions for management and operations challenges

It is recommended that the organization follow a strict organizational structure to ensure that it is not exposed to compliance breach risks. The duties for all the levels of management should be spelled out, and management should be held responsible for all their activities. Communication channels should as well be set up to ensure that there is clear communication amongst the management team members to guarantee that the recommendations are implemented as expected. As far as focusing on employees and ensuring compliance by employees, management should make sure that all affected employees are trained adequately. All the implemented recommendations should be evaluated three months after implementation. However, regular checks every fortnight should be carried out to ensure that the recommendations are providing efficiency.

Solutions for marketing challenges

All the marketing strategies should be carefully scrutinized to ensure that they comply with all the rules that govern marketing in the health sector and the nation. They should as well ensure that there are no marketing compliance breaches. After every marketing strategy has been implemented, the effects of the strategy will be evaluated for effectiveness every week. This exercise is crucial because most marketing plans do not last for long (Gilligan & Lowe, 2018). The short duration span for evaluation ensures that the marketing strategy is effective.

Solutions for finance and accounting challenges

The organization will have to ensure that all persons responsible for its finance and accounting are adequately trained to make the right accounting decisions and calls. They should as well ensure that there are no finance compliance breaches. An evaluation will be carried out daily to ensure that there is compliance in the organization’s account department. The accounting department will balance their books daily to evaluate whether the implemented recommendations bring income for the organization, or whether they are straining the organization with no hope concerning returns.

Solutions for research and development challenges

There will be an organizational structure set out to manage and oversee the organization’s experts, as well as to ensure that there are no research and development compliance breaches. The studies and researches that the experts carry out will be scrutinized to ensure full compliance with research policies, rules, and standards. Evaluation of all ongoing reviews will be done every month for as long as the study takes place. The solution will ensure that research is carried out correctly according to law, and as per the ethical requirements of research and development.

Solutions for information systems challenges

In the case of accounting and finance, to ensure that there are information systems compliance breaches, there will be an organizational structure to oversee how patient data is handled (Clark, 2016). Evaluation for the implementation concerning the recommendation that touches on integrating operations of that organization with technology will be carried out thrice in a week. Besides, random checks will be carried out daily because information technology in health organizations runs the activities of health institutions.
