Identify a crime or criminal issue that you believe has a law enforcement solution. Considering the Problem Analysis Chart (Step 8) in Crime Analysis for Problem Solvers in 60 Small Steps (assigned reading for Week Two) and the Twenty Five Techniques of Situational Prevention chart, propose a potential solution to the crime or criminal issue you identified. Explain how the technique will effectively reduce the possibility of the crime occurring. If the technique is effective, what is the expected result on social and criminal justice? You may use this research in your Final Project.

I chose from the Twenty-Five Techniques of Situational Prevention chart #23 which is the “Alert Conscience.” With this technique it talks about Roadside speed display Boards, Signatures for customs Declarations and Shoplifting is stealing. (http://www.popcenter.org/library/25%20techniques%20grid.pdf) When we look at roadside speed displays I have seen this a lot around where I live. One actually lights up red and blue so my first thought was okay where is the cop at. I think if there were more that displays the fact that you are doing over the speed limit that it may deter people from speeding. Some places even put in speed bumps or Dips. Either one of these if someone is speeding has the potential to damage a vehicle if the person driving is not obeying the speed limit that is posted. Honestly that would be there fault. I feel in this case that the triangle leaves us with The manager which is the place someone is speeding each time and the Handler is of course the offender who is breaking the law by speeding. (http://www.popcenter.org/learning/60steps/index.cfm?stepNum=8) With the Signatures for Customs Declarations when looking at the Customs Declaration this is given to those who are arriving into the United States. This form must be filled out to make sure that everything the person is bringing in is noted and that it’s not supposed to come into the United States. “U.S. Customs and Border Protection is responsible for protecting the United States against the illegal importation of prohibited items.” If the information is filled out properly, documented correctly and filled the way it should be then there should not be any problems. However, I think we have to remember that people love to hide things in certain places so maybe cavity searches may be more frequent I am not sure but. With this one I feel that the problem triangle hits all three points. Handler again would be the offender bringing in contraband, Manager being Customs and the U.S border where we know people like to press their luck with bringing things in and of course the Guardian which would be any victims who encounter those who have brought contraband in or other items and basically all of the United States since U.S customs is supposed to protect us from those who are trying to come over.
