Please explain how purchasing decisions affect the company’s performance. (This may seem like a simple question, but it is not.)

Let’s look at how the purchasing department (or sometimes called the procurement department) may interact with other departments. How does purchasing affect the finance department and the company’s financial performance; how does purchasing affect the engineering or operations centers; how might it affect marketing and sales? You may want to look into purchasing’s effect on logistics, services, after-sales service, manufacturing, support, and administration.

In your responses, you needn’t be concerned with every interdepartmental transaction, but try to focus on one area. With enough responses, we might see a general trend.
