THE TWO DISCUSSIONS BELOW ARE THE ONES I NEED RESPONSES TO. IT CAN BE AT LEAST 300 WORDS EACH AND MAKE SURE TO REFERENCE.

FIRST COLLEAGUE DISCUSSION

MICH

In the video, the nurse made statements of stereotypes. She stated that Talia claimed she was raped. She also made a comment about how much alcohol Talia had along with if she was given the alcohol or she had too much on her own. These stereotypes perpetuates violence against women because they hold many women back from coming forward about violent acts.

As social workers we have many skills to help advocate for sexism. Social workers can respond to stereotypes and assumptions by educating people on the facts and myths of assault. The social worker sat with Talia and informed her about the myths that has been put in place by society. Educating people in the community can help give better understand to assault and also make victims feel easier about informing someone. I would advocate for social change at all levels of system. I would start with micro, by talking with Talia and allowing her to express what happen. On the mezzo level, if Talia allowed, I would bring in her family to give education on what sexual assault is and how to handle it. On the macro level, I would hold education classes with the students of the university to go over the signs of assault, the facts, the myths, and how to report it. Having this information can settle some myths.

SECOND COLLEAGUE DISCUSSION

BRITT

In the case study episode, the statements that the woman made were definity gender and sexist stereotypes. Since the rape victim was a female, the woman had deserved to get raped because she had alcohol in her system. The woman felt like the young lady was at a party, so she probably did not believe her rape story. I believe these gender and sexist stereotypes perpetuate violence against women. Violence are viewed as victims of weak-minded individuals. Woman are viewed as weak minded compared to men. As society, they feel like the woman deserves what happens to them because they placed themselves into the unwanted situations. A social work skill that I would apply to this situation is educator. we as social worker must teach our young lady about sexual assault and the content surrounding it. They need to become aware of what-to-dos at parties such as not drinking behind another person, sticking around familiar friends and so on. One way I can advocate for social change surrounding sexual assault is forming a nonprofit organization which focuses on sexual assault victims.
